The Chinese developer behind London’s One Nine Elms scheme has named a revamped UK team as uncertainty continues to cloud the £900m project.
Dalian Wanda subsidiary Wanda One has named Daniel Chen as its managing director and Rene Markovic as construction director.
They are the most senior of a raft of appointments over the last 14 months, with Mr Markovic joining in the wake of last year’s unexpected departure of development director Peter Amato.
The full Wanda One UK team includes sales and marketing director Tim Gawthorn, cost control director Alex Lam and finance director Michael Liu.
Mr Amato left in May 2015, 10 months after taking up his role. He joined Dalian Wanda in July 2014 from Qatari Diar when the Chinese company put together its initial leadership team to deliver One Nine Elms.
His departure came as work was due to get under way on the Chinese developer’s debut UK project, with a joint venture between China State Construction Engineering Corporation and Interserve named as preferred bidder.
However, Construction News understands that a contract has yet to be signed between the JV and the client.
Wanda One is thought to have approached other tier one contractors, opening up the possibility that the project will be retendered, although discussions with the preferred joint venture are ongoing.
The JV went head-to-head with Mace to land the luxury residential-led development, which has a construction value of £400m.
The pair were shortlisted for the scheme along with a third anglo-Chinese JV between Atkins and a separate division of CSCEC.
McGee is already carrying out demolition on site, with completion due in late 2018.
The original Wanda One team included managing director Lizhou Zhang, marketing director Michelle Van Vuuren, design director Luit Hazarika and finance director Jo Teare.
