06Feb92 UK: GMI CONSTRUCTION WINS £5.5M DESIGN AND BUILD CONTRACT FOR LEEDS UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB'S ELLAND ROAD EAST STAND.

GMI Construction is to design and build the 17,000 capacity East Stand, above, at Elland Road for Leeds United football club under a £5.5 million contract. The stand, which will incorporate the largest cantilever span in Europe, will comprise a two tier structure and include 42 executive boxes. Work on the project will start at the end of the current season, with overall completion due in 1993, but with the possibility that half the stand will be open in time for the start of the 1992 season.
