14Sep90 UK: HINKLEY C NUCLEAR POWER STATION GIVEN PLANNING PERMISSION.

Uncertainties over construction and equipment costs make it impossible to judge the economic advantages of going ahead with a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point, the inquiry report has told Energy Secretary John Wakeham.Despite the doubts, Mr Wakeham gave planning approval for the Hinkley C pressurised water reactor after publication of the public inquiry report last week. But he said that a final decision on investment cash would not be taken until the 1994 review of nuclear policy.
