Blaw Knox to shut its UK plant

ROAD paver machine maker Blaw Knox is shutting its UK factory at Rochester, Kent, with the loss of up to 200 jobs.

Blaw Knox is owned by US construction equipment giant Ingersoll Rand and makes a range of road building equipment, including pavers.

The factory will close within three to four months as part of a corporate restructuring, which will concentrate worldwide production at Blaw Knoxs two other factories in Matton, Illinois, and Hameln, Germany.

Kent politicians have been lobbying hard to win a stay of execution, but a spokesman for Ingersoll Rand said the company remained committed to the move.

However, it is taking part in the full 90-day consultation process with all relevant parties, including trade unions.
