Scotland Buoyant UiE floats to new £62.5m deal

UIE SCOTLAND, owned by French firm Bouygues Offshore, has signed a £62.5 million follow-on contract with Esso Norge to complete fit-out work on the Balder Floating Production Unit (FPU).

UiE and its subcontractors began the fit-out work early last year.

The deal will see the completion of the project and increase the workforce to 1,000 at UiE's Inchgreen yard on the River Clyde.

The main activities to be carried out include mechanical, electrical, heating and ventilating, piping, structural/marine and coatings.

The FPU will now remain at Inchgreen until mid-1999 when it will sailaway to Esso's Balder Norway Block 1 field in the North Sea.

UiE, in tandem with Fluor Daniel, is also completing work on the floating, production and storage and offloading vessel Bleo Holm at its Clydebank yard.

UiE's share of the work is around £50 million, resulting in 950 people being employed on the scheme.
