Sir Robert McAlpine closes Newcastle BSF deal

Sir Robert McAlpine has reached financial close on the second phase of Newcastle’s Building Schools for the Future project.

The Aura Newcastle Local Education Partnership – which includes Sir Robert along with Parsons Brinckerhoff and Robertson Capital Projects – will carry out work on eight schools in the city.

The second phase is understood to be worth about £80 million of the £220 million project to rebuild or refurbish every secondary school in Newcastle.

Sole MLA NIBC has provided £42 million in long-term financing to the 25-year project, according to CN’s sister title Infrastructure Journal. The European Investment Bank will cover the remaining £38 million.

New schools in this phase of the programme include St Mary’s RC Comprehensive, Gosforth Junior High School, Sir Charles Parsons School and Walker Technology College.
