Costain wins £59m Port Talbot highways contract

Costain has been awarded a £59 million contract to construct 4.5km of dual carriageway by Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council for the Port Talbot PDR project.

The work includes the construction of an access road from the M4 Junction 38 into Port Talbot and the Docks as well as completing the link to Junction 42 on the M4 and West Wales.

A new bridge over the Swansea to London railway will be constructed, as well as railway alignment and signalling works and a new main entrance to the Port Talbot Tata Steelworks.

Costain chief executive Andrew Wyllie said:  “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract for Port Talbot which again underlines our position as a market leader in the construction and maintenance of highways in the UK.”

The project has been scaled back after it was originally tendered for £84 million covering 5km of new road.
