The Docklands Light Railway extension betwen Canary Wharf and Woolwich Arsenal, in London, is one of two dozen projects chosen for a record shortlist in this year’s Prime Minister’s Better Public Building Award.
The shortlist for the awards – which focuses on “efficient procurement and excellent design” – will be unveiled today by Gordon Brown and comprises total of 24 projects which were chosen from 125 entries around the country.
In addition to the 2.5 km DLR extension, designed by Halcrow and built by Morgan Est and Colas Rail, other shortlisted projects include the University of Nottingham Jubilee Campus extension, London’s Wood Lane Tube Station and the new Bristol Metropolitan College.
The award is sponsored jointly by CABE, the Office of Government Commerce and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.
The winner will be announced on 14 October. The photo gallery above shows some of the other projects shortlisted.
