£200m Telford shopping centre overhaul approved

Plans for a £200m redevelopment of Telford shopping centre have been approved by the local council.

The development, which will take five years and is being undertaken by the centre’s owners Sovereign Land, was approved on Wednesday night by Telford & Wrekin Council.

The scheme includes shops and cafes as well as the redevelopment of an Asda store which will be vacated in spring 2014 when the supermarket moves to a new site.

The council said the scheme complemented its nearby £250m Southwater scheme, which opens nearly next year and includes a new hotel, a cinema and eight restaurants.
