£70 million airport work up for grabs

Birmingham City Council is seeking contractors for an airport runway extension and associated road building in contracts worth up to £70 million.

The project is for road improvement and road diversion works, including associated services, together with extending the current runway at Birmingham Airport by 400 metres.

The road improvement and road diversion works will be contracted by Birmingham City Council, on behalf of Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council. The works associated with the extension of the runway will be contracted for by Birmingham Airport.

The tender notice says that the two aspects of the project are distinct, but there may be commercial benefits from the using a single contractor to build schemes. Contractors are therefore able to bid for several lots described within this notice. The document leaves open the possibility that more than one contractor will be appointed.

The deadline for submitting a pre-qualification questionnaire is 26 September. Interested contractors can email or visit Birmingham Airport’s website.
