Sir,

Gary Phillips sought clarification on the services offered by ConstructionSkills Apprenticeships (‘Where is the incentive to train apprentices?’ Letters, September 6).

Contrary to Mr Phillips’ understanding, an apprentice will not normally be started on a college placement unless we have matched them with an employer.

ConstructionSkills has introduced Programme Led Apprenticeships that enable young people already on full-time college courses, not funded by us, to complete their qualification. By 2011 we aim to have placed 6,000 PLAs with employers.
