Barratt boss to retire

House builder Barratt has appointed Mark Clare to succeed David Pretty as group chief executive.

Mr Pretty, 61, is retiring after 27 years with the firm - 16 as a board director. He became chief executive in 2002.

Mr Clare, the managing director of Centrica's British Gas residential energy operation national housebuilder, will join Barratt in October.

He was a non-executive of BAA until its recent acquisition by Spanish firm Ferrovial.
