Contractor fined £25k over worker fall death

Birkenhead-based CRN Contracts has been fined £25,000 after a worker was killed when he fell through the roof of a retail outlet in Wigan in 2005.

David Battisson, 49, was working on the roof of The Range store when he fell 10m through a PVC light. He was taken to the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan, where he died from his injuries.

CRN Contracts – formerly Concrete Repairs NW Ltd – pleaded guilty to two charges under health and safety legislation.

In addition to the fine, Manchester Crown Court ordered it pay £14,086 in costs.
