Family of crane collapse victim hold anniversary vigil

The parents of a New York City construction worker killed in a crane collapse a year ago have travelled to the US from Kosovo to hold a vigil for their son.

Ramadan Kurtaj was killed alongside colleague Donald Leo on 30 May 2008, when the top part of a crane fell on a Manhattan building site.

His family placed pictures at the site at the weekend for the anniversary. The accident followed a crane collapse just two months earlier that killed seven people.

Investigators have blamed the incident on an inferior weld, the Associated Press reported.

The workers’ families have sued the crane manufacturers.
