New chairman for qualifications body

Stephen Tilsey has been appointed chairman of vocational building services awards body EAL.

Mr Tilsey was managing director of building products firm until 2008 and started his career as an apprentice.

He said: “Businesses are recognising that they cannot simply hire in the required skills and know-how but instead they need to develop their employees by investing in their on-the-job training…

“I have seen its benefits, increased loyalty, motivation and productivity.”

EAL managing director Ann Watson said: “ “Stephen is a passionate ambassador for vocational qualifications, and I am confident he will be a strong and strategic addition to the EAL team.”

More than three quarters of all engineering NVQs or SVQs are awarded by EAL.
