UK's first Volvo EC250D Stage 3B-compliant excavator begins work in Abderdeenshire

The first Volvo EC250D Stage 3B-compliant excavator to be sold in the UK has gone to work at the Ardelethen quarry in Aberdeenshire.

The D series’ six-litre Volvo engine machine has 11 per cent more power (150 kW) and 16 per cent more torque (1,012 Nm) than its predecessor and is fitted with exhaust gas recirculation and a diesel particulate filter.

A ‘smart’ hydraulic system increases flow, which Volvo claims cuts cycle times by up to 2.5 per cent, and D series machines automatically select one of five operating modes (idle, fine, general, heavy and power).

An eco setting is available in the last three modes which the manufacturer claims can improve fuel efficiency without loss of performance in most operating conditions.

Fitted with the intermediate dipper arm, the maximum digging depth is 7.34 m and lifting capacity across carriage is 3.16 tonnes at full reach.
