Skillfridge names trade’s master technician

Somerset’s Simon Dawes takes top honours

Simon Dawes (23) employed by Total Environmental Network in Somerset and trained by City of Bath College has been named the winner of Skillfridge 2009.

The runners-up were Stuart Millar (18) employed by Shilliday Refrigeration in County Armagh and trained by South Eastern Regional College in County Antrim; and Stephen Morley (47) employed by Cotswold Vale Refrigeration in Gloucestershire and trained by City of Bath College.

All contestants had to demonstrate their theoretical knowledge and a mastery of their practical skills via installation work based on real-life projects, including brazing and electrical wiring, within tight timescales.

Skillfridge is the national refrigeration and air conditioning practical skills competition, which is part of a network of national skills competitions licensed by UK Skills.

It is designed to promote standards and skills in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry, and help to raise young people’s awareness of the career opportunities within the industry.
