Communities named for slice of £10m green fund

The Government has announced the first 10 communities to benefit from a £10 million fund to cut greenhouse emissions.

Communities in Norfolk, Isle of Wight, London, Nottinghamshire, Pembrokeshire, Cheshire, Northumberland, Yorkshire, Oxfordshire and Devon were named as the first of 20 to benefit from the Low Carbon Communities Challenge.

They will spend the cash on initiatives such as solar panels, wind turbines, home insulation and low carbon heating systems.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change is now looking for an additional 10 communities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to take part in the next phase of the challenge.
