Building contractor Kier Group launched its Strategy for Sustainability programme in 2007.
It recently took part in Business in the Community’s annual Corporate Responsibility index survey, and last year became an associate member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme. This year it won 21 CCS national awards. It was also one of the first contractors to sign up to the WRAP commitment to halve waste to landfill by 2012.
The group has participated in the Carbon Disclosure Project this year - an independent body set up to collect and distribute information that encourages investors, companies and governments to take action against climate change. It is working towards a comprehensive review of its carbon footprint.
The Kier Employee Environmental Pledge was established this year to monitor the use of electricity and recycling facilities in the office.
Annual turnover: £2.4 billion
