Oil well piles for wind farm

Aarsleff, working for main civil works contractor RJ McLeod, is installing recycled oil well drill casing as the piled foundations for some reinforced concrete bases supporting turbines at the 40MW Fairburn Wind Farm.

Aarsleff was awarded an initial contract to supply 340mm diameter oil well casing tubes and install them for two bases. This was subsequently extended to four bases and could be further revised as determined by the progressive ground investigations. RJ McLeod is working for building the £50 million Fairburn Wind Farm for energy supplier Scottish and Southern Energy.
