Bids open for £140m Manchester Airport Road

Stockport Council has begun the search for a contractor to build the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road.

The design and build contract is for a 10 km dual carriageway between the A6 at Hazel Grove to the Ringway Road / Ringway Road West junction, incorporating an existing section of the A555.

Work is to cover construction of and work to railway, road, cycle and pedestrian bridges, traffic signal installations, road lighting, culverts, utility diversions and landscaping works.

It will also include defects liability maintenance.

The project is expected to begin in August this year, and to be completed in 2017.

The contract is valued at between £100m and £140m.
