CLG head of housing Richard McCarthy to join Capita Symonds

The top civil servant for housing at the Communities and Local Government department Richard McCarthy has announced plans to join outsourcing giant Capita Symonds.

Mr McCarthy is currently director general for neighbourhoods but will become an executive director at Capita’s property and building services subsidiary, when he leaves in November.

He has been at CLG since 2003.

Current CLG director of strategy and performance Andrew Campbell will take on Mr McCarthy’s role until a permanent replacement is appointed.

Permanent secretary Sir Bob Kerslake added: “I will be very sorry to see Richard go. He’s made a huge contribution to the work of the department over a long period, and has led on the introduction of major changes in Housing, planning and regeneration, including two substantial parliamentary bills.”
