Bids invited for £21m Manchester BMX track job

Manchester City Council is inviting bids for a £21 million contract to design and build a new national BMX racing track next to the Manchester Velodrome.

The 70x100m BMX racing track will be fully enclosed with a structural span capable of seating up to 2,000 spectators at national BMX competitions.

The building will contain all ancillary accommodation associated with the track and is to be physically linked to Velodrome.

Improvements will also be made to the external areas surrounding the centre including a new plaza and pedestrian bridge as well as upgrades of access roads and the existing car park.

Contractors must submit pre-qualification questionnaires by 6 August.

Between five and six firms will be invited to tender for the 15 month project on 1 September.
