Balfour Beatty secures £250m Coventry PPP lighting contract

Balfour Beatty has been appointed as preferred bidder for Coventry City Council’s £250 million Public Private Partnership street lighting contract.

The 25-year deal will involve the design, installation and maintenance of 33,000 street lights and 6,000 signs and bollards, during the five-year capital investment period, as well as the ongoing maintenance of all existing and new equipment.

Balfour Beatty will invest equity of approximately £6.3 million into the concession, which will see the contractor employing new technology, such as a dimming system, to reduce the council’s energy consumption by 38 per cent.

This is Balfour Beatty’s fourth PPP street lighting concession, with existing projects in Sunderland, South Tyneside and Derby proceeding successfully.
