Bam wins £14m Sheffield school project

Bam Construction has been appointed by Sheffield City Council to build a £14m school on the site of the former Don Valley stadium in the city.

The school, built for for 1,200 pupils, will feature a four-storey secondary school, a two-storey primary school and a central area to be used for events.

Bam will use a modular design to complete the main build in under a year and to minimise the time needed on site.

It said it would use local suppliers where possible and target a sustainability rating of BREEAM Very Good.

Bam construction director Kelvin Pollard said: “It is great to build on our excellent relationship with the council on this prestigious job.

“We look forward to writing a new and exciting chapter in the history of the former Don Valley stadium site.”

Earlier this week, Bam was awarded an £80m deal by the University of Cambridge to build housing, retail and community facilities at its new North West Cambridge Development.

The new Don Valley school will help tackle the need for more pupil places in the area.

Work has started on site and the new school is set to open in September 2015.
