Carillion's Ask Real Estate buys former car showrooms in Manchester

Carillion subsidiary Ask Real Estate has bought the former Bauer Millett car showrooms in Manchester with a potential development value of £300m.

The site, located adjacent to the Hilton Tower, could be used for commercial offices, hotel, retail and residential uses totalling more than 750,000 sq ft. It will be delivered in a partnership between Ask, Manchester City Council, Transport for Greater Manchester and conference venue Manchester Central.

Ask managing director John Hughes said its relationship with Carillion gave Ask the “platform to move quickly to acquire this prime piece of real estate in the city centre”.

A detailed planning planning application will be submitted for the site later this year. The architect is SimpsonHaugh and Partners.

Manchester City Council chief executive Sir Howard Bernstein added: “We are delighted that Ask has acquired this strategic site, and look forward to working with colleagues in bringing forward the development of a key part of the City’s Civic Quarter.”
