Costain ranked XXth place in Construction News’ Top 100 listing this year ended 31 July 2009 based on a turnover of £XXX million.
Costain is an international engineering and construction group which is made up of four main divisions:
- Civil engineering
- Property development
- Oil, Gas & Process
Costain works in water, waste, nuclear, highway, rail, marine, airports, education, health, retail, property development, and oil, gas and process.
Pre-tax profits jumped 17 per cent £23.1 million for the year ended 30 June 2008 from £19.8 million in 2007. Sales increased 13 per cent to £996 million from £877.9 million in 2007.
Chief executive Andrew Wyllie has been at the helm since 1995 when he joined from Taylor Woodrow Construction where he was managing director for four years.
Costain’s non-executive chairman, since 2008, David Allvey is a non-executive of Resolution Plc, Intertek Plc, William Hill Plc and MyTravel Plc.
