Rentokil chief appointed to Galliford Try board

Galliford Try has appointed Rentokil’s chief financial officer Jeremy Townsend to its board of directors.

Mr Townsend, who has spent seven years heading up Rentokil’s finance team, will begin his role as a non-executive director at Galliford Try in September.

His previous roles include finance director at pub chain Mitchells & Butlers and various finance roles at Sainsburys.

News of the appointment came as current chair of Galliford Try’s audit committee Andrew Jenner notified the board of his intention to step down from his role later this year after nine years on the board.

Other changes will see current Galliford Try chairman Peter Ventress becoming chair of the company’s nomination committee, taking over from non-executive director Terry Miller.

Ms Miller will continue as a member of the board and nomination committee.

Last month Galliford Try was forced to set aside around £98m to cover the costs of two major legacy infrastructure contracts in its construction business.

Galliford Try chairman Peter Ventress commented: “I am delighted to welcome Jeremy to Galliford Try as a non-executive director.

“Jeremy’s appointment will further strengthen our independence and the experience of the board as well as ensure a smooth transition for Andrew’s departure.

“The board looks forward to Jeremy quickly establishing himself in the new role, and to benefiting from his extensive corporate and sector experience. Jeremy will assume the role of chair of the audit committee on Andrew stepping down.

“On behalf of the group I would like to thank Andrew for his valuable contributions as a director and excellent chairmanship of the audit committee, overseeing a time of significant change and growth during his extensive time on the board.”
