Kier has won the contract to deliver a £39m regional distribution facility for value retailer B&M.
Developer UK Land and Property selected the contractor to build B&M’s southern distribution centre in Wixams, Bedford.
Kier will construct a 1m sq ft warehouse with facilities including temperature-controlled zones for chilled and frozen goods, as well as offices, recycling and ancillary areas.
The contractor said it would also be constructing a refuelling area, a gatehouse and a maintenance area for vehicles.
The job will feature 200,000 cu m of earthworks and use 4,500 tonnes of steel throughout the build.
Work on the scheme started earlier this month and is scheduled to complete in 2019.
Kier Construction central managing director Mark Pausey said: “First-class warehouse space is in real demand and working with UK Land and Property, we are looking forward to delivering this space in a perfectly situated location for deliveries across the country.”
Kier topped the monthly contractor league table for the third time in 2018 thanks to a 26-deal haul during July.
Last week the contractor revealed that directors Nigel Brook and Nigel Turner had quit Kier’s board after a reshuffle saw Claudio Veritiero promoted to chief operating officer.
