Kier has been appointed to a £150m six-year deal to deliver construction works across the Canal & River Trust’s system across England and Wales.
The National Engineering and Construction Contract has an estimated value of £25m per year. Kier has been appointed for six years from April 2015, with a possible extension of up to 10 years.
Its services division will carry out around 100 major construction projects to the network and more than 200 minor repair projects per year under the contract.
It will also provide 24/7 out-of-hours cover and professional services to support the Canal & River Trust.
The deal replaces the Omnibus 3 contract, for which Kier was the incumbent contractor since April 2009.
Kier chief executive Haydn Mursell said: “The award of the Canal & River Trust contract continues to demonstrate Kier’s increased scale and capability following the combination with May Gurney.
“This award further strengthens our position in the growing utilities and waterways sector.”
