Chris Millard swaps Balfour Beatty for Laing O'Rourke to lead engineering excellence group

Former Balfour Beatty director Chris Millard has joined Laing O’Rourke to head up its engineering excellence group.

Dr Millard will be a member of Laing O’Rourke’s group technical committee where he will be tasked with aligning the group’s strategy and the work of its engineering excellence group.

A former programme director at BAA, Dr Millard was described by Laing O’Rourke as having more than 20 years’ experience in “design and manufacturing, business leadership, major project leadership and business transformation”.

He had been a member of Balfour Beatty’s UK construction leadership team, where he was described as being “responsible for major construction operations throughout the UK, across transport, power, construction, civil engineering and engineering services”.

Laing O’Rourke group technical director Paul Westbury said: “Chris possesses a unique mix of cross-sector skills and experience that strongly supports our drive to become an engineering enterprise; through engineering, commercial and operational leadership, the acceleration of DfMA and our offsite manufacturing agenda, and support our earliest engagement with clients on new projects to more effectively embed our preferred ways of working and in turn deliver industry-leading certainty to our clients.”

Laing O’Rourke said Dr Millard will commence the role in mid-January.
