Vinci lands £75m Trafford Centre expansion

Vinci has won the contract to deliver a £75m expansion of the Trafford Centre in Manchester.

The French contracting giant will build a glass-domed roof and redesigned interior at the Intu-owned shopping centre on the outskirts of the city.

Vinci will start work on the Trafford Centre later this year, with the project due to complete in early 2020.

Vinci Construction UK regional director John Roberts said: “The work we are carrying out at Barton Square will create a fantastic new area befitting this architecturally rich building.

“The quality of the materials and design will create a space that shoppers will be able to enjoy for many years to come.”

A proposed takeover of Intu from rival Hammerson collapsed earlier this year after the board of Hammerson advised shareholders to vote against a £3.4bn agreement to takeover Intu.

Intu appointed McLaren Construction for a £73m extension to its Lakeside shopping centre in August.
