Wates names new regional preconstruction manager

Wates has named Lisa Cunningham as its new preconstruction manager for the Midlands.

Ms Cunningham’s remit includes overseeing the £135m Axis Square Development in Birmingham to which Wates was appointed in June.

Construction at the city centre site is due to start in early 2019.

Ms Cunningham, who has been with Wates for the past decade, will also be tasked with boosting the company’s framework activity throughout the region.

This includes Wates’ involvement on Scape’s £2bn Major Works framework, under which the contractor was picked to deliver Nottingham College’s £58m City Hub project.

Wates business unit director John Carlin said Ms Cunningham’s appointment would help maintain the firm’s performance in the region amid an “increasingly competitive market”.

Last year saw Wates’ order book jump 42 per cent from £3.6bn to £5.1bn.

The company is aiming to break through the £2bn turnover barrier during its 2018 financial year.
