Wates to build Regal's Birmingham resi tower

Regal Developments has selected Wates to build the second tower at The Bank development in Birmingham city centre.

The tower is the second project on the scheme to be secured by Wates and has a contact value of £31.6m.

Designed by Glancy Nicholls Architects, the 30-storey tower on Broad Street will include 205 apartments as well as retail space on the ground floor.

Wates Construction Midlands business unit director John Carlin said: “Collaborating with Regal on The Bank and creating a striking new addition to Birmingham’s skyline has been a fantastic experience for our Birmingham team.

“We are therefore honoured that our relationship is continuing with the second building at The Bank.”

According to the architect, the design for both towers references Birmingham’s industrial heritage, with the first building reflecting the city’s brass works and the second’s silver frame referencing Broad Street’s history of silver working.

The scheme is expected to complete in 2019.
