Wates wins £150m Birmingham office job

Wates has won a £150m contract to design and build a new office in Birmingham city centre.

The contractor beat two other bidders to secure the two-stage contract at Axis Square for London and Continental Railways (LCR).

Two office buildings will be delivered on the site and Wates will now start preconstruction to finalise design and agree scope and price with LCR.

The plan also includes retail units and the creation of new public areas.

Construction is expected to start early next year.

There are plans for two more buildings to be developed on the site in a future phase that will be procured separately.

LCR is owned by the Department for Transport and develops former Network Rail sites around the country.

Last month Wates secured a £500m contract to revamp the Parliament Northern Estate.

The contractor was also named on a £2bn public sector framework in the North-east earlier this month.
