Cornish harbour plans unveiled

Regeneration plans for a Cornish harbour including a supermarket and restaurants have gone on public display.

The South Quay harbour at Hayle will have a “vibrant” waterfront, according to ING Real Estate Development, complete with a 40,000 square metre food store, 350 parking spaces and retail and restaurant units.

ING believes that residents and visitors to the area are currently being driven away to more distant centres as the town does not have a major food store.

The regenerated South Quay would be suitable for people to shop, work, enjoy a meal or a drink and could be accessed by all modes of transport, according to the developer, which has owned the site for five years. Residential units are planned for the North Quay.

The proposals can be accessed online and are also on display at Hayle’s Passmore Edwards Institute for a limited time.
