Balfour acquires US water firm for $20m

Balfour Beatty has acquired leading US water and wastewater infrastructure contractor Fru-Con Construction LLC for $20 million (£12m).

The infrastructure giant announced today that its US construction services division has bought the Virginia-based company from Bilfinger-Berger.

Fru-Con has an annual revenue of about $80m.

Balfour said the acquisition adds to its expertise in water infrastructure projects and will enable it to grow further in the mid-Atlantic and California markets, as well as the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida and Texas.

Chief executive Ian Tyler said: “The acquisition of Fru-Con is a significant step in enhancing our capabilities in the attractive US water market.”
