Bouygues boosts UK turnover but profit drops

French construction giant Bouygues saw its UK turnover rise 9.7 per cent in 2008 but pre-tax profit fell 7 per cent.

Bouygues’ UK turnover for the year to 31 December 2008 totalled £116.3 million from £106 million the previous year. Pre-tax profit amounted to £10.2 million, from £11 million in 2007.

But the firm strengthened its cash position with net funds at the end of the year totalling £139.8 million compared with £96.9 million in 2007.

The number of UK staff increased to 373 from 260 in 2007 with the wage bill rising to £20.9 million from £13.3 million a year earlier.

The highest paid director received £419,000 compared with £324,000 in 2007.
