Hydrock acquires remediation contractor QDS

Hydrock has announced the acquisition of remediation contractor QDS.

Hydrock said the acquisition of the in-situ remediation of soils and groundwater specialist would “complement the strengths of Hydrock’s existing remediation business”.

It declined to say how much the deal had cost, or the number of staff who would be transferred as part of the acquisition when contacted by Construction News.

It will add new bases in Guildford and Sheffield to Hydrock’s existing offices nationwide.

QDS will operate as a separate trading division of Hydrock delivering specialist projects with landowners and their advisers, but able to utilise Hydrock’s experience in remediation delivery and other disciplines as required to give clients a fuller remediation and engineering service when this is needed.

Hydrock was named Ground Engineering Specialist of the Year in the 2013 Construction News Specialists Awards, and is working on UK landmark schemes including London Gateway, Coed Darcy and Hinkley Point, alongside D&B framework positions with the Environment Agency and National Grid.

Dr Mike Higgins, managing director of Hydrock’s remediation business, said “This is a great move for both Hydrock and QDS and their respective clients.  We have an obvious synergy of innovation, technical excellence and a commitment to the highest health and safety standards.  Individually great, but together we can now offer a remediation capability that in my view has no equal.”
