Barking's new regen arm hires CFO and development director

A former Laing O’Rourke finance director and Grosvenor commercial director have been appointed to leadership roles at Barking and Dagenham Council’s regeneration company.

Iain Ferguson (pictured) has joined as Be First’s chief finance officer.

Mr Ferguson has held roles as Laing O’Rourke’s FD and at the Abu Dhabi government-owned firm Tamkeen.

He left Laing O’Rourke in 2010 having been with the group for four years.

Former Grosvenor commercial director Ed Skeates has also joined Be First as its development director.

Be First launches later this year, with the aim of building 60,000 new homes over the next 25 years.

The company has been set up as a commercial enterprise with targets of bringing in £16m over the next decade.

Be First will provide pre-planning services and project delivery as well as setting up joint ventures to deliver regeneration.

Mr Ferguson said: “Barking and Dagenham is at the epicentre of the capital’s eastward shift so I’m thrilled to be joining Be First at this hugely exciting time.”

Mr Skeates said: “Be First will deliver on the promise of Barking and Dagenham being London’s hottest investment opportunity. It is exactly the sort of challenge I relish.”
