Exclusive: Four leaders depart Shepherd Construction in reshuffle

Three more senior staff have left Shepherd Construction after managing director Phil Greer’s departure last week, Construction News understands.

Regional managing director Mark Tant, business director Peter Bates and head of procurement and design Andrew Wilson have left the firm.

It is believed that at this stage none of the four have new roles lined up.

A meeting is understood to have taken place internally on Monday to explain the changes to staff as Shepherd Construction is restructured.

Andrew Constantine has been named as the new national operations director. He was formerly regional director for the East division.

A Shepherd Construction spokeswoman said: “We have restructured our management team to ensure Shepherd Construction has the right leadership team in place to take the business forward.

“Appointments to the newly created leadership team structure, reporting directly to Shepherd Group Built Environment chief executive Mark Perkins, are Steve Collins as executive director of operations, Gary Walton as executive commercial director and Gary Edwards as executive director of development.

“The underlying business in Shepherd Construction is in good shape with strong processes, a great order book, a strong pipeline and many profitable projects. As such, we are well placed to take advantage of the opportunities ahead as markets recover.”

Mr Tant was formerly a managing director at Willmott Dixon.

Mr Bates was Shepherd Construction’s programme director and has been with the firm for more than a decade. According to his LinkedIn profile, he previously held the role of divisional managing director for the West between September 1999 and March 2009 before he became programme director.

Andrew Wilson was formerly with Amec and had been a project manager and construction manager before he was made head of procurement and design.

All four are members of Shepherd Construction’s leadership team.

Phil Greer was formerly managing director of the East division of the firm, before he was made executive director of operations in 2010 and then MD.

Construction News reported Mr Greer’s departure last week.

David Williams was appointed as Shepherd Group chairman in July. He replaced Alan Fletcher who stepped down after almost 13 years.

Construction News revealed in April that Richard Dobson was leaving his role as a construction director at Shepherd Construction to join Morgan Sindall.
