Kier will recruit 250 extra staff after moving its national finance functions to Manchester.
The contractor will open an office on Fountain Street to house its finance shared service centre, which will include teams responsible for managing invoices, billing, project finance management and accounting.
The existing financial team will be significantly expanded from 50 to 300 staff following the move.
Kier Property, the contractor’s development division, is currently refurbishing 25,000 sq ft of office space over five floors to house the extra staff.
The company already has offices on Queen Street in Manchester and in Trafford Park, and employs a workforce of around 5,500 in the North of England.
Kier executive director of construction and infrastructure services Nigel Brook said: “Our decision to locate Kier’s new national finance function to Manchester is a testament to our strong and enduring commitment to the city and the region.
“This specific investment will create several hundred new jobs, tapping into a wealth of talent in the city and creating wider economic stimulus at a time when the city and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority looks set to go from strength to strength.”
