Wates Construction business unit director David Price leaves company

Wates Construction’s North-east business unit director David Price has left the company after 14 years with the group.

Wates Construction Midlands and North managing director Phil Harrison will take over in the interim.

No reason was given for his departure.

Mr Price joined the firm in 2000 and was promoted to business unit manager in 2009, leading on projects including a new headquarters for the Northern Ballet and Phoenix Dance Companies.

Last week Wates Construction appointed Shepherd Construction’s Christian Bailey to lead its business development team.

The contractor said the appointment would strengthen its Northern presence in the private sector.

Wates Construction North-west business unit director Tony Shenton said the move formed part of the group’s “ambitious strategy” for growth in the North.

In its latest accounts for the year ending 31 December 2013, Wates Group reported a slight drop in its pre-tax profit to £22.3m, compared with £25.7m in 2012.

Its turnover decreased to £931m over the same period from £1.19bn in 2012.

The group’s operating margin was 2.5 per cent, up from 2.2 per cent in 2012.
