Kilmartin set to redevelop Southampton Royal Pier

Developer Kilmartin Group has appointed consultancy Terence O’Rourke to shape plans for the future of Southampton’s Royal Pier waterfront as part of a major regeneration project.

Southampton City Council, in conjunction with Associated British Ports and Crown Estates, aims to redevelop the area to connect the city to the water via a redesigned public park.  The site also includes Royal Pier, which was first opened in 1833, and neighbouring Mayflower Park.

Terence O’Rourke will produce the scheme’s master plan and environmental statement, with a view to submitting outline planning application to Southampton City Council in 2011.

Early ideas for the area include specialist and local retail, office space, residential properties, hotel and leisure facilities.
