Harrogate-based development firm Montpellier Estates has submitted plans for a 2 million sq ft mixed-use Leeds city centre development, boasting offices and a ‘large casino’.
The City One site has been described as “one of the most strategic and prestigious city centre development sites in the North of England” by the firm, which announced plans to provide grade A office space, residential and retail units, restaurants, a hotel and a casino as part of the new development.
Montpellier said the development will contribute towards the city council’s regeneration strategy by linking nearby Holbeck and Beeston to the city centre.
The City One site had originally been earmarked as a potential location for the Leeds Arena project but was subsequently withdrawn following Leeds City Council’s decision to appoint itself as the arena developer and locate the new project at council owned land at Claypit Lane.
The application follows on from the firm’s successful acquisition of outline planning permission to use the site for a mixed use development in 2006.
