Online guide to building heat loss

Worcestershire residents and businesses can now use a thermal map online to find out how well their property is insulated.

The website www.warmerworcestershire.com shows users a map of the area with properties coloured to show how much heat is escaping from their roofs.

A link on the website gives advice on how to reduce heat loss with measures such as insulation and draught excluders.

A plane captured the thermal image of Worcestershire in a number of flights between November 2008 and March 2009 on cold, clear winter nights.

Chair of the Worcestershire Partnership Professor Michael Clarke revealed that £1 from every £3 spent on heating could actually be wasted in a poorly insulated building.

He said: “I’d urge everyone to visit the website and find out whether they could improve the efficiency of their homes, whether through better insulation or by making small changes in behaviour.”
