Regeneration construction experts St Modwen have had plans for the first phase of their £270 million Firepool project in Taunton approved by the council.
Taunton Deane Borough Council approved the firm’s draft proposals to transform the 4.5-acre Priory Road Car Park and former livestock market into new offices and residential homes.
St Modwen will now go back to the drawing board to create more detailed designs to build approximately 10,500 sq m of office space, up to 49 apartments and various other leisure and shopping facilities on the 17-acre riverside site.
The buildings will be situated near the River Tone on a new river park which was designed as part of a planning application submission made by St Modwen earlier this year.
The Firepool scheme is the first major phase of Project Taunton, which is the largest town centre regeneration project in the south-west and could create up to 4,000 jobs.
