How I benefit from a corporate subscription

I have been subscribing to Construction News for over 20 years because it knows the construction business. It is the eyes and ears of the industry and if there is anything of note going on you’ll read it in Construction News.

I use it for leads on who’s doing what, who’s moving around in the business, what major projects are coming out the ground. The first thing I do is turn to the news page because that is what you’ve got to have – project information. What’s happening with all the major developments that are going on in the City – the major commercial and the large mixed developments - that’s really what I use it for. If anybody’s got any worthwhile news they put it in Construction News.

I see Construction News as a business tool. It is an additional resource for the industry. Everyone reads it and what it does is make people aware of what you do and what your capabilities are, especially if it’s something noteworthy that you want to shout about.

Other people who might not have considered you for a certain package will see you have secured a similar package and they’ll come and talk to you.

I also find the features can be helpful too. For example, we were interested to learn from Construction News that Crosswell were going down the BIM route and were giving BIM Courses to all their sub-contractors. That was an interesting piece because OAG is heavily design-led and we were going through the BIM change and developing our BIM resources.

I use it for research. I’m developing a plan or a hierarchy of Balfour Beatty. Now that’s a huge company and there are so many people in that company that you are just never going to find out about. Construction News did a feature about Balfour Beatty that was very interesting and I managed to make a good organogram about Balfour Beatty to add to my own information.

As a subscriber I have signed up to the CN newsletters – they are good for getting the headlines instantly wherever you are. I am usually on my iPhone or my iPad and if I see a headline that’s going to grab me then I do a quick search and see if there is some more information about it.
