The contractor, which last week announced a £264m cash call due to increased risks to its debts, secured £605m-worth of contracts in November, according to construction intelligence provider Glenigan.

Chief amongst these deals was the £300m Moxon Street redevelopment for client Concord London, on which work commenced this week.

Kier is also on a JV with VolkerFitzpatrick, which bagged the £160m contract to build facilities for US F-35 fighters at RAF Lakenheath.

The group’s latest top spot in the monthly table, which ranks contractors by the value of wins in the period, also further cemented its place in the annual contractor league that Kier has now headed for 10 consecutive periods.

Lendlease took second place for November thanks primarily to the £350m athletes’ village deal for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, awarded by the city council.

Winvic won five deals valued at £262.5m to claim a distant third in the month – its highest position since the same month of 2017.

Elsewhere a number of major awards contributed to the make-up of November’s top 10.

Sixth-placed Sisk finalised its role on the £183m 2one2 scheme in Birmingham for Moda, Burmeister & Wain landed an £180m energy-from-waste job for Aviva & Cogen to take seventh, and McLaren clinched eighth due to its £120m Amex House scheme in Brighton for First Base.

In the annual league, Kier extended its lead over Wates to more than £900m, while Morgan Sindall climbed from sixth to third – swapping places with Galliford Try.

Sir Robert McAlpine leapfrogged Willmott Dixon into fourth for the 12 months to November, with Tarmac rising five places to seventh.

Lendlease was a big mover in the annual table on the back of its strong month, rocketing from 19th to eighth, but Balfour Beatty fell out of the top 10 to sit 14th.

Laing O’Rourke meanwhile tumbled 11 places to 18th after two major hospital contracts fell outside the period covered.
