TH Real Estate named the contractor as its preferred bidder on the 40 Leadenhall Street office project more than two years ago in October 2015.

However, Mace has only now finalised the contract to build the 910,000 sq ft 34-storey scheme, according to construction intelligence provider Glenigan.

The agreement was enough for the contractor to top the contractor table for February, which ranks firms by the value of deals sealed over the month.

Kier continued its recent hot streak with second place in the period, having been first in three of the previous four monthly leagues.

The company bagged 37 wins in February worth a combined £319.2m, led by a £45m student accommodation project for the University of Warwick.

Bam took third in the month – its third podium place in the past five tables – bringing in £229.1m across seven deals, just ahead of Willmott Dixon’s 16-contract £213.1m haul.

Other major awards in February included Graham securing a £86m residential project in Liverpool for Patten Properties, Buckingham scooping a £117m package at the Omega South mixed-use development in Warrington, and Wates bagging phases two to four of the Lillie Road scheme in Hammersmith for Capital & Counties, worth £110m.

In the annual table covering the 12 months to February, Kier’s recent purple patch finally dislodged Sir Robert McAlpine, which had headed the league for six consecutive periods.

Galliford, Balfour and Laing O’Rourke held their positions below the top two, but Morgan Sindall made way for Vinci to take sixth.

Mace’s big month propelled it from 12th to eighth, while Skanska benefited from declines elsewhere to climb from 20th to 15th.
